You can read every article without accepting analytics. There are no advertising trackers, accounts, newsletter forms or session recordings on this website. Cloudflare hosts and protects the site and processes connection information, including IP addresses and request details, to deliver pages and maintain security. Its browser Web Analytics/RUM beacon is disabled.
Optional analytics
If you choose “Accept analytics,” Google Analytics 4 helps me understand which pages are useful and how readers find the publication. It measures page views, sessions, engagement, referring websites, country/region and device category. It uses first-party cookies with pseudonymous browser identifiers; this is not anonymous data.
No Google Analytics tag loads and no analytics requests are sent to Google before you accept. Rejecting analytics leaves the publication fully available. Advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalization stay denied. Google signals, user-provided data collection, granular city/device collection and advertising integrations are not used.
The implementation sends only known public page addresses without query strings or fragments, and the referring website’s origin rather than its full address. It does not send form entries, email addresses, LinkedIn account identity, employer or client data. Google uses IP addresses to derive approximate location; Google states that GA4 does not log or store individual IP addresses.
Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_…) are configured to expire after 60 days without extending their expiry on each visit. Event and user data retention is set to two months without reset on new activity. Aggregated standard reports can be retained longer.
Your accept or reject choice is stored in this browser’s local storage as pci-analytics-consent-v1 for up to 180 days. It records the choice and expiry, not your identity. Use “Analytics settings” in the footer to change your choice. Choosing “Reject analytics” withdraws consent for future collection and removes this site’s analytics cookies. It does not automatically delete information already processed by Google. You can contact me about access, correction or deletion requests; I may need enough information to locate the relevant record.
Service providers and external links
Google and Cloudflare may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws and lawful access requests. No optional account data sharing with Google products, modeling contributions, technical support or business recommendations is enabled for this analytics account.
External links, including LinkedIn and research references, lead to independent websites with their own privacy practices. Clicking them is your choice; this site does not embed their tracking widgets. Emails you send are handled through Gmail and used to respond to your request. Please do not send confidential employer or client information.
